Underfunded justice systems are a threat to our security and political stability

In what may be one of the most important articles ever written about the fragility of Western societies, FT journalist Suzi Ring and Alistair Gray have documented the problem of systemic underfunding of justice systems across Europe and its extraordinary consequences in terms of very long delays before cases go to court.
While the authors might not have set out to write a wide-ranging diagnosis of the societal and political challenges we face, both the matter itself and the diagnosis of its causes have much wider implications and much wider lessons for contemporary politics in our societies.
